  • Wizards Star Calls For A Chat

Arlington’s Jennifer Stone may have scored a primo gig as Selena Gomez’s sidekick on Wizards of Waverly Place, but you can’t take the Texan out of the girl, who is back home for the holidays. On the Disney Channel comedy, Stone plays Harper, the nonconformist best friend of Alex (Dallas’ Gomez). Alex, with her two brothers, happens to be a wizard-in-training, but Harper doesn’t know that. Yet. Stone has chatted with the Star- Telegram about the show before; she called late last week to talk about tonight’s episode of Wizards. Here’s some of what the actress, who turns 16 in February, had to say.

I understand that tonight’s episode is a pretty big one for Harper.
The episode is about Harper and the family going to PopCon, which is a very Comic-Con-like convention. It’s got comic-book characters. The only one not excited about going is Alex. Harper wants Alex to go and she says she can’t, but then they run into each other at the [convention]. Mayhem ensues, and maybe a secret is revealed.

Are you a comic geek yourself? Did you go to Comic-Con this year?
I am! I went through this phase when I was a preteen, probably like 10 to 13, where I was big into anime. I loved Marvel Comics, I’m a big Batman girl, and I’m a big Star Wars geek, too. So I’m very much in the Comic-Con-geared audience. But I haven’t had a chance to go. I’ve wanted to go so bad, but my mom’s like, "We’re not having it. I don’t really want to spend a whole weekend around these geeky kids."

You’re a pretty big Twilight fan, too, aren’t you?
Oh, yeah, I’m already reserving my tickets on Fandango. I’m so excited, because a lot of my friends are Twilight geeks, too. We’re all going to go see it and have a geekfest.

It seems like every episode, they have you doing something crazy. How about on this episode?
Well, I’m actually in a Wonder Woman-esque outfit. It’s supposed to be ["Battle Diva"]. It was my very first episode where I got to use like rigs and stuff. I got to work with a green screen, so I was pretty excited about getting hoisted up in my Wonder Woman costume on wires. It was awesome! I like to think I have a pretty big imagination, so it was fun getting to react to nothing, and I’m a big action-movie person, so I felt like I was in an action movie.

There have been rumors about a feud between Selena and Miley Cyrus. Is there anything to that?
No, not at all, which I find really funny because that was [Wizards’] very first like blog-site rumor thing. It’s so silly, because Selena and I talk about how there’s just no rhyme or reason to any of this. It was just created out of the blue. It’s completely nonexistent.
